Melanie was born and raised right here in Stony Plain and joined our team in April 2016. Animals and travel are her biggest passions. At first she began to pursue a career in the travel industry, however after much deliberation and a year of work in a doggy day care, she soon realized her heart belonged to helping animals in need. Melanie became Pet First Aid Certified in May 2017 and is currently enrolled in a Canine Massage Therapy Program to become certified in Canine Therapeutic Massage. Melanie is passionate about helping people and their pets and looks forward to a career helping your canine companions always feel their best.

Crystal was born and raised in a small town in Northern Saskatchewan and joined our team in April 2016. She graduated from the Alberta School of Dog Grooming in Leduc, January 2014.
Crystal has been dabbling in coat coloring, and really enjoys the creative side to grooming but her favorite part of grooming is knowing that she has made a client and their pet happy. She has begun building many special bonds with pets and their families at our shop and she wishes to continue nourishing these and making new ones for many years to come.

Amanda was born and raised in Prince Albert, Sask and moved to Spruce Grove in 1996. She has always had a love for cats, dogs, exotic pets and horses and her family of pets now includes 2 Siamese cats, a mini poodle named Bernadette, and 7 horses.
Amanda graduated from the Alberta Grooming Academy in 2002 and grooms all breeds of pets with a particular passion for poodles, terriers, creative grooming and feline grooming!!
Amanda is also a Certified Senior Equine First Aid Instructor, and Equine Trick Trainer and believes the health and safety of our customer's pets is paramount!
Amanda is available Monday, Tuesday, Friday and occasional Saturdays.
Summer Merrills realized her love and passion for animals at a very early age. At just 16 years old, she began working in a Veterinary Clinic. At the age of 18, Summer began volunteering at the B.C.S.P.C.A and was hired within weeks as the youngest employee even considered by the organization. With the experience she had gained in these positions, Summer realized she was destined for a career in Animal Health.
Determined to pursue this career, in 2001 Summer enrolled in the Animal Health Technology Program at Fairview College.
In 2002, before entering her second year of college, Summer was in a life altering car accident which created physical limitations but after graduating with honours and the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association Award in 2003, Summer was excited about her future as a Veterinary Technician. Determined to succeed Summer pushed through her physical limitations and became a very successful Veterinary Technician, sought out by Veterinarians. Throughout her career, she gained invaluable experience in animal health, practice management, team building and stress and time management.
Sadly, after eight demanding years as a Veterinary Technician, Summer was beginning to struggle physically however her mind, heart and passion for helping animals and their people was stronger than ever. Although, Summer was not able to continue her career in the Veterinary Industry she was adamant she would find another way to continue helping people and their pets and founded The Pooch and Pony in 2011! Summer continues to utilize her passion, training and knowledge to provide an experience you cannot find anywhere else. Summer is devoted to the company and committed to the health and wellness of the community’s pets.
Dina grew up in her parents small business, a motor cycle repair and sales shop and is no stranger to the demands of a small company.
When Dina met her husband, it was love at first sight. They started a family and
as the children grew and started school Dina went to work as a clerk for a utility company. It became evident that she enjoyed working with numbers and she decided pursue a career in accounting and enrolled in a continuing education Accounting program at NAIT. Dina received her Accounting Diploma in 2005 and worked for 25+ years for Fortis Alberta. In 2012 Dina retired from Fortis as the Projects Accounting Supervisor. Eager to continue using her skills, Dina was delighted to start a new business; as well as, having an opportunity to have new experiences and learn all about retail, pets, grooming and all aspects of running a retail business.
Dina is a great asset to our company and when not at the store she is busy being an amazing mom, wife and grandma to all of her two and four-legged grand babies. When not at the store, Dina also volunteers her time as an assistant driver for the Parkland Food Bank
Client Care Rep
Dani was born in Edmonton, Alberta and spent most of her childhood in Devon, Edmonton and Stony Plain, Alberta.
Dani joined The Pooch and Pony team in May of 2018 and although she had only possessed personal experience with pets before joining our team, she was very eager to learn and enthusiastic about her new position as a Client Care Rep at The Pooch and Pony.
Dani's most favorite things about this industry are learning about pet grooming, health and nutrition and working with all the wonderful customers and pets that visit us!
Dani has a Chihuahua and Standard Poodle at home and enjoys painting, cooking and reading in her spare time.
Desiray Foster Kemps
Client Care Rep
Desiray joined The Pooch and Pony team as a Client Care Rep in July 2019. While she is new to the pet retail industry she has been around pets and horses most of her young life!
Desiray was born in Calgary, AB and spent most of her childhood on her grandparents farm just outside of Stony Plain, Alberta.
Desiray is one of our resident horse girls and her hobbies include Show jumping and Dressage. She possesses her B level in Canadian Pony Club and has completed her Equine Green Certificate Program.
Her only children are furry and have four legs; Tasha the shih tzu, Samme the cat, Connor the throughbred/QH cross and Chance the Appy Cross.
Learning new things and how to help people and their pets is what Desiray enjoys most about working at The Pooch and Pony!

Erika joined The Pooch and Pony team in August 2019.
Erika was born and raised in Kelowna, BC and spent most of her childhood at Okanagan Lake, McCullough Lake and Bear Lake. Her absolute favorite spot for adventures with her dogs was Mission Creek Park!
Erika moved to Edmonton in 2015 with her husband who serves in the Military. They share a lovely home with 4 fur babies; Octavious the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Philip J Fry the Samoyed/Rough Collie/Rat terrier cross, Lady Strawberry the Standard Poodle and Seymour Butts the Guinea Pig!
Not only does Erika have a passion for pets, she also thoroughly enjoys the outdoors. Her favorite activities include kayaking and hiking. Erika also has a keen interest in the world's history and a love for reading.
Erika's grooming career started out as a bather at the Skyview Petsmart in Edmonton. It wasn't long before she realized her love for grooming and helping people and their pets and was quick to attend the academy and receive her certification.
Erkia has now been grooming for 3 1/2 years and is looking forward to taking her Pet First Aid Course this fall and has a particular interest in learning how to hand strip.
Having previously worked with one of our other wonderful pet groomers we knew Erika would be an amazing fit for our team, our customers and our customer's pets! She loves to watch an owners reaction when they return to pick up their pet and enjoys getting to know each pet and learning about their individual quirks. Erika appreciates a challenge and loves helping to resolve past traumas. She believes in dealing with all dogs in a positive and respectful manner and keeping every pets grooming experience as positive as possible.

Kenzie was born in Edson Alberta and spent most of her childhood in Peers and Cochrane Alberta with annual Summer trips to Tofino BC.
Kenzie's hobbies consist of fishing, quading, camping and spending quality time with her pets.
Kenzie joined The Pooch and Pony team in February 2019 and as a new grad from the Alberta School of Dog Grooming she has all the skills to complete your pup as requested. Some of her other skills include certification in Pet First Aid.
Kenzie finds her work as a pet groomer very rewarding. She loves building trust with her clients and their pets and really enjoys working with pets with anxiety and providing that little extra patience and TLC.

Natalie trained with well known Master Groomer Shauna Bernardin out of Calgary AB and joined The Pooch and Pony team in June 2019.
Natalie grew up on a farm near Evansburg and enjoys spending time with her 3 dogs, Bruno and Django the daschunds and Basil the Coonhound; 3 orange cats, Joey, Dino and Quigley; and 2 horses, Jessie and Badger!
Natalie's love for pets, dog kisses and making her customers happy is what led her to grooming. Some of her favorite breeds to groom are double coated breeds and schnauzers big or small!
While Natalie does an exceptional job on all breeds and styles, if you have a double coated breed such as a Pom or Pyrenees or are interested in an amazing poodle cut.....come check out her mad hand scissoring skills!

Robyn joined The Pooch and Pony team in March of 2018. Robyn became certified as a pet groomer in 2015 and possesses a wide range of experience in grooming, dog daycare and customer service. Her focus is creating a safe and stress free environment for each customer and their pets and building a relationship on the foundation of communication and trust. While Robyn possesses the skills to groom most breeds, some of her favorites include the double coated breeds such as Pyrenes, Samoyeds, Newfoundlands and Pomeranians.
